Team Wedding
Our goal was to create a wedding-portal site that retained current advertisers, increased advertising click-throughs, created repeat visitors (who bookmark the site), and increased new-advertiser sign-ups. We achieved this with a balance of elegant and usable design, incorporating Ajax tools to improve interactivity. Partial list of usability issues that we reviewed:
Navigation issues: Check for design cul-de-sacs, navigation breadcrumbs, clear groupings of categories and subcategories, page-specific navigation, etc.
Nomenclature issues: Check for ambiguous labeling or non-standard labeling.
Task completion: Do users know where to go and how to start and complete tasks or find information?
Clear calls-to-action: Review of prominent calls-to action on every page.
Real estate allocation: Review for vital elements falling after the main "fold."
Placement and emphasis of design elements: Review design placement and emphasis to help guide user actions and improve comprehension.
Clutter reduction: Decrease clutter and improve information chunking (sections are distinct, labeled, and do not bleed together).
Gateway factor: Do users know where to go at first glance? And will they get what they're expecting?
