Enhanced Magento 1.7 Features

The latest improvement to the features of the Magento Community platform 1.7 benefits the customer, the merchant, and the developer in many critical ways. Layered navigation usually appears in the left column of search results and category pages. The standard layered navigation includes a “Shop By” list of categories and price range. This new algorithm will help you display similar products in the same price range and will give your visitors better control over search results.

For Merchants:

Auto-generation of coupon codes: Magento can now generate multiple coupon codes for a single promotion automatically. This comes in handy when you want to use unique coupon codes per customer for the same promotion. Export the list of codes for offline distribution, email, newsletters and more. Easily manage and monitor coupon usage and generate detailed reports.

CAPTCHA: Reduces spam registrations in your shop. This auto-generated test ensures that the login is being attempted by a person and can be enabled in both the admin and customer login areas.

EU VAT: when making a sale to another business (from EU to EU country), the selling store must validate the VAT number to be able to use the zero VAT percentage. Customers can now provide their VAT number which is then validated (frontend and backend orders). The VAT number for the store is now also included in the store information configuration.

Customer Group Pricing: You don’t want to set the same price for everyone sometimes. Magento can now handle different base prices per customer groups. That’s something that comes in handy in a business to business environment when dealing with wholesalers and retailers. Regarding consumers, the admin can specify different product prices for every customer group. Now you can run more targeted marketing, sell products by different prices for different customers, motivate your customers and even provide specific discounts for the most loyal customers.

For Developers:

Backup and Rollback systems: Manage and schedule a variety of backup operations with the option to rollback the changes to reverse any modifications. This feature is particularly useful when testing new modules or customizations, or when upgrading to a new version of Magento.

REST API support: This will give developers the possibility to create, update or delete simple products, inventory and order information. Just to name a few.
